The National Consultation Meet on Environmental Education in progress


A National Consultation on Environment Education was held during 10-12th January, 2000 at the Centre for Environment Education, Ahmedabad under the Environment Education in School System sub-component of the World Bank assisted Environment Management Capacity Building Project. The Consultation, which was inaugurated by Shri Vinod Vaish, Special Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests, was attended by over hundred participants representing key Central and State Government Departments and Agencies such as the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Ministry of Human Resource Development, NCERT, NCTE, SCERT, SDEs etc. as well as eminent educationists, environmentalists and NGOs working in this area. The main objective of the consultation was to discuss the four-pronged strategy on environment education - prepared recently by the MoEF in consultation with the MHRD, NCERT etc. - for strengthening environment education in schools. Based on the discussions and deliberations of the Consultation, further action to operationalise the Environment Education strategy on a pilot basis is being taken.
