There is a greater need for information today than ever before. Planning for sustainable development-which has evolved as the goal for human welfare in recent times is squarely dependent on the availability of accurate, reliable, updated and appropriate information. Though a great deal of information exists in our country on a variety of subject matters including environment, accessing appropriate information still continues to be a difficult task. The initiative of the Ministry of Environment & Forests to publish a quarterly newsletter seeks to fill this gap.

A wealth of information is generated by the Ministry through various research projects, forestry and environmental clearances of projects, conservation programmes and other related schemes. This should be accessible by all concerned users inorder to achieve sustainable development. Publication of ENVIRO NEWS is one of the timely steps by the Ministry for dissemination of all such information.
