MESSAGE

Planning for sustainable development is dependent on timely, reliable and appropriate information. Though a wealth of information exists in our country, getting quality information, at the right time, still continues to be a difficult task. Enviro News' the Quarterly Newsletter on Environment and Forest Policies, Programmes and Activities seeks to address this very issue by disseminating authentic and updated information on important policies, enactment of new legislations, amendments to existing laws and rules, initiation of new schemes/programmes etc, at regular intervals to a wide range of user groups, including the general public.

The overwhelming response of the readers to the inaugural issue of Enviro News', published in August 1997, has necessitated the inclusion of more information about the ministry and its activities in the second issue which focuses on several areas under the broad banner of environment and forestry.

Publication of Enviro News' will, I hope, contribute to the evolution of an environmentally sensitive society and solicit their participation in the programmes of the Government of India.
