SC raps Govt on shifting of polluting units

THE HINDU [17 JULY, 2001]

THE SUPREME Court on Monday warned the Delhi Government of contempt proceedings if it failed to implement the Court's order for closing down polluting industries in the capital.

The Court's observation came on complaints that several polluting industries were still functioning. A Bench comprising Justice B N Kirpal and Justice N Santosh Hegde asked amicus curiae Ranjit Kumar to examine the complaints.

It also asked Government counsel Pinky Anand to co-ordinate with the amicus curiae to identify such industrial units. On her part, Anand said she would file a status report within four weeks, after ascertaining facts.
