The present issue of the Newsletter carries an important speech given by the Honorable Justice J.S. Verma, Chairperson, National Human Rights Commission on the occasion of Project presentation by selected students from different schools in Delhi. A NGO, Sankalp, has organised the competition on Environment Awareness among senior school children in the National Capital Region. Many of the presentations made by the students on the areas of pollution in Delhi were very informative and based on the evaluation by a small panel of judges, some of the students subsequently received prizes under various topics in a special function chaired by the Deputy Chairperson, Rajya Sabha Ms. Najma Heptullah. On the occasion of the World Environment Day, another NGO, SEARCH, organised an interactive workshop with officials from Delhi Government, academics and activists on the cleaning of the Yamuna River. Details will be presented in our next issue.
There is also a short summary of an important workshop on Lead Toxicity held in Lucknow at ITRC by one of the invited participants. In addition, the usual features such as Book Review, short current news, recent important publications including books and technical papers in leading national and international journals etc.
We had a large number of visitors from different places in India and abroad to browse through our web site and obtain current information on biogeochemistry and also environmental law related issues.
