Resource Base

India is a land of physical, ecological, social and cultural diversity. Bounded by the Himalayan mountain ranges in the North and the Indian Ocean in the South, it has a multitude of climates, soil types and geographical areas -and consequently of habitats and wildlife. But, it is not only the physical and biological diversity that is enormous.

India is endowed with natural resources in plenty and has the potential to convert them into riches through its large technical manpower and infrastructural base.

The resource base essentially comprises of the following:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are indeed a resource rich and yet, economically poor country, so poor that even the smaller neighbours in Asia have surged far ahead of us during the last 15-20 years -Table 3. And, there is no hope unless we can change our Planning and Development strategies.
